Uncle John

Every kid needs an Uncle John.
Uncle John isn't really Ty and Jennie's uncle, you know- he's not related to us or anything, but he comes pretty darn close to family.

Uncle John lived downstairs from Rob and I when we were first married. He was our close friend and best neighbor. He was always up for hanging out- we shared pancakes, wine, weekend getaways, bored games, and lots and lots of laughs.

Uncle John is endlessly patient. When we were renovating our condo, he peacefully slept in his room knowing full well that tons and tons of illegal rubble rested right above his head. I did not sleep as well- I constantly worried the rubble would bust though the floor and crush him in the night.

Uncle John is fiercely loyal. After Tyler was born, he raced over to the hospital, determined to be among the first to meet him.

He is beyond giving. When we got married, he gave us the most generous gift imaginable- use of his parking space- in BOSTON. He could have rented it out for a ton, but he just waived it off and told us to enjoy. When Jennie was born, he gave big brother Tyler his first wagon- a gift that he still adores.

Uncle John just gives, gives gives. Today, he went above and beyond. Knowing Ty's insane love for cars, he brought him this gift:

Holy. Crap.

It's a tiny motorized car. Tyler loves it- but our neighborhood will never ever be the same again. In his first five minutes of ownership, Tyler drove his car into our neighbor Ellen (four times), crashed into a rosebush, took out a stack of recycling bins, and got stuck in a hedge. He loves it.
